The Incanda Story
Gerhard van Deventer, the owner of Incanda, grew up on a farm near Swellendam in the Southern Cape. Having always had an entrepreneurial spirit, he started his own business in the leather and skins wholesaling industry after completing his studies.
After receiving numerous requests from his leather customers for upholstered products, Gerhard decided to yield to his creative instincts and start his own exclusive leather upholstery. He recruited a varsity friend, Hendri Visser, as production manager and during December 2003 they started production in a double garage. The business was an instant success and has grown from producing approximately 10 couches per month during the first year to current volumes of around 100 new couches per month.
A re-upholstery department where well-lived classics are restored was established a year or so down the line. This unit currently does the equivalent of approximately 30 new couches per month.
Incanda currently employs around 35 people. Please refer to the "At Work" section to read more about our philosophy regarding employees and profit.
